How Awelior would approach this project

Sinclair & Pryce Consulting Engineers is invented — the way it is built is not. None of this is work delivered for a client. It is the shape we would give such a project — with the same depth, but without a client who would have to answer for it.

Where it starts

Sinclair & Pryce Consulting Engineers work in defined work stages against agreed fees. Hours sit in one spreadsheet per engineer, budgets in a second, and the invoicing tool knows about neither. A project can therefore run over for months without anyone noticing — it gets noticed when the invoice goes out and the number does not fit.

Decisions

Hours and budget side by side, not one after the other
On the project screen the consumption sits next to the allowance per work stage. That is the only presentation a decision can be taken from while the work is running — a month-end report is news, not steering.
Work stages as a step chain
In an engineering practice a project is not a bar with a percentage on it, but a sequence of clearly named stages with handovers. The step chain shows exactly that and spares everyone the question of what “60 per cent done” is supposed to mean.
Time recording on a screen of its own
It is the screen everyone uses daily — and the one a system like this dies on if it is awkward. So it sits as an equal in the sidebar rather than buried inside the project.

Deliberately left outNo cross-project resource planning and no utilization forecast. A forecast built on figures that are only just being captured properly would be a claim — it comes once the data has held up for a year.

Accounting and payments received
Interim invoices, the final invoice and outstanding items belong together, so that project status also knows payment status.
Document storage
Drawings, minutes, correspondence — with revisions, and the question of what is kept for how long after completion.
