- Replaces the course list on the noticeboard that nobody reads in the evening, the call to the front desk (“is there still a place?”) and the plastic card left at home. The desk phone stops ringing while ten people queue in front of it.
Everything in this demo is laid out and none of it acts: buttons only report that they have no effect in the demo, checkboxes are fixed, input fields lead nowhere. Nothing is stored, sent or fetched.
How Awelior would approach this project
Northscar Bouldering, Durham is invented — the way it is built is not. None of this is work delivered for a client. It is the shape we would give such a project — with the same depth, but without a client who would have to answer for it.
Where it starts
Northscar Bouldering has members on monthly contracts, a changing class program and a turnstile. Three small frictions add up: the class plan hangs in the gym, booking happens at the desk, and the plastic card is at home exactly when somebody drops in on impulse. Each of them costs either a class or a conversation at the counter.
Decisions
The pass is a tab of its own
It is the reason the app ends up on the phone's home screen. Burying it two levels down under “Account” would be the fastest way to keep the plastic card in use.
Classes as a day plan, booking as a pushed view
The plan shows the week; booking happens in a sheet raised over it. That keeps the plan the place you return to, and makes booking a short detour rather than a separate state.
The pass code as a schematic pattern
The code on the pass is explicitly not a readable barcode or QR code but a pattern with a note. A working code in a demo would be an identifier pointing at nothing — or worse, at something.
Deliberately left outNo contract signing and no payment in the app. A monthly contract with automatic payments needs an authorization, cancellation terms and identity — that belongs at the counter or in a project of its own, not as a fourth button in a class app.

A tab bar plus a pushed booking view with a way back, in all four languages, including the four states on the account screen. Navigation responds; booking and pass are laid out and inert.
How it would go on
Class administration
Places, waiting lists, cancellations and instructor changes. A booking only becomes a booking once somebody can say no to it.
Access control
The pass has to open the turnstile. That depends on the installed hardware and is where a project like this becomes expensive or cheap.
Membership and fees
Contract status, billing runs, freezes and cancellation — the app displays them, a system behind it has to manage them.
