Everything in this demo is laid out and none of it acts: buttons only report that they have no effect in the demo, checkboxes are fixed, input fields lead nowhere. Nothing is stored, sent or fetched.

Pemberton Electrical Wholesale, Toledo is invented — the way it is built is not. None of this is work delivered for a client. It is the shape we would give such a project — with the same depth, but without a client who would have to answer for it.
Where it starts
Pemberton Electrical Wholesale counts forty racking bays once a year. The counting happens on paper, the typing up happens in the evening, and what comes out of it is the stock figure the business works with for the next twelve months. A transposed digit surfaces in November at the earliest — when a bin is empty that the system said was full.
Decisions
The book quantity only appears after the entry
Blind counting. Somebody who can see the number they are counting against ticks it off; somebody who cannot, counts. That is the single decision the worth of a stocktake rests on, and in the interface it costs exactly one ordering choice.
Posting happens after release, not while counting
A discrepancy passes through first count, threshold, second counter and the warehouse manager's release before any stock figure moves. An app that posts while counting is quicker and makes the stock figure the business of whoever stood in the aisle last.
The bar counts bays, not items
A half-counted bay helps nobody on stocktake day: it can neither be released nor unlocked. Progress measured in line items would look more cheerful and would say nothing about where the stocktake stands.
Deliberately left outNo reporting by counter. Who counts fastest and who produces the most discrepancies could be derived from the same data in an hour — and would turn a stocktake into performance monitoring. What is counted is the bay, not the person.

Navigation responds, including the route from a bay into a single line item and back. The count field, the pre-release checklist, the reorder proposal and the release buttons are fully rendered and inert; the four states have a view of their own.
How it would go on
Connection to stock control
Book quantities come from there and released differences go back — along with the question of what happens to movements posted while the count is running.
Devices, scanners and signal
Handhelds or phones, charging cradles that survive a counting shift, and wireless coverage between twelve-meter racks. This is where a stocktake app becomes expensive or cheap.
Method and audit
Which stocktaking method applies, who countersigns and how long count records are kept is set by the accountant, not by the software.
