How it works
The money waits until the machine stands.
The buyer pays into an escrow account, not to the seller. It is released ten working days after handover — or not at all, for as long as an objection stands.
Marketplace for used machinery
Six steps, two deadlines
Viewing and record
Compulsory above $3,000. Both sides sign what was seen: hours on the counter, condition, tooling included. Only then can the purchase be started.
Purchase order
Buyer and seller confirm the price, the collection date and who loads. Both receive the same summary; side agreements made on the phone do not count.
Payment into escrow
The account is held separately from the marketplace's own business account. The seller sees the payment arrive and prepares the handover, but cannot draw on the money.
Handover
Collected by the buyer or by a haulier at the buyer's cost. Handover starts the ten working days for acceptance — not the payment, and not the purchase order.
Release on the eleventh working day
Without an objection the escrow desk pays the seller automatically, less the 1.2 % fee with a $120 minimum. The buyer can release earlier at any time.
Objection
An objection freezes the amount. The seller has seven working days to respond. If both sides agree, we pay out on that agreement — in full, in part or back to the buyer. If they do not, the money stays where it is until a court rules or both sign a settlement. We do not judge defects; we only hold the money.
Fees
Listing
no fee
- List as many machines as you like
- Upload photos, records and data sheets
- Viewing calendar included
- No commission on a sale settled without escrow
Escrow
Recommended
1.2 %of the price, $120 minimum
- A separate escrow account, not our business account
- Released ten working days after handover
- An objection freezes the amount
- Unwinding a sale costs no extra fee
- Buyer and seller split the fee equally
If a sale is unwound after an objection we keep nothing. The fee only falls due when money is paid out.
Paid placement
$45per listing per 14 days
- The listing sits above the list
- Labeled „paid placement", in the list and on the listing itself
- Three at a time at most
- No effect on sorting by price, year or distance
- No renewal without booking it again
We sell visibility, not a recommendation. That is why the label is there and why these listings drop out the moment anyone sorts for themselves.
Sample plans for the demo. None of them can be booked — the buttons deliberately lead nowhere here.
All amounts exclude sales tax. The marketplace is open to businesses only, which is why prices are quoted net here.
Common questions
Who is my contract with?
With the business or the private person who listed the machine. Ironvale Machinery Exchange sells nothing and does not become a party to the sale. We run the marketplace and the escrow — for the escrow agreement we are your counterparty, for the sale we are not.
How do I see whether a company or a private person is selling?
From the line directly under the price, on the listing page and in the list. It comes from the seller's declaration when the account was opened; for companies we have seen the state business registration and the sales tax permit number. Where a private person sells there is no warranty and no recourse — and because you as the buyer are a business, no consumer law protects you either.
Why is a viewing compulsory?
Above $3,000 the escrow order cannot be started without a signed viewing record. Used machines are almost always sold with the warranty excluded; what you did not look at, you cannot complain about later. A video walkaround does not replace the visit — it helps you shortlist.
When does the seller get the money?
On the eleventh working day after handover, automatically, less 1.2 % with a $120 minimum. The buyer can release earlier at any point, and many do so on the day of installation. If the buyer objects within the period, nothing is paid out.
What happens in a dispute?
The amount stays frozen. The seller has seven working days to respond, after which we try to record an agreement — a partial refund against release, for instance. If none is reached we pay neither side until there is a court decision or a settlement signed by both. We do not assess defects: we have neither the expertise nor the standing.
How is the list ordered, and what is paid for?
By listing date as standard, then by price, year, hours or distance if you choose. Paid placements — three at most — sit above the list carrying the words „paid placement", on the listing page as well. Sort the list yourself and they drop out. That fee is the only payment that affects visibility here.
Are the reviews verified?
Only someone who has bought or sold through this marketplace, with a closed escrow transaction, can leave one, and we check that link before every review is published. The content we do not check, we delete no bad reviews, and the party reviewed gets one public reply. Below five reviews we show the count rather than a score.
Can I buy without escrow?
Yes, if both sides want to. You then pay the seller directly, no fee arises, and we see nothing of the transaction — including when it goes wrong. We advise against it where the parties do not know each other, and we say so in the purchase order.
Is this legal advice?
No. This page describes how we work. The escrow terms, the marketplace rules and the templates for sales between businesses belong in front of a specialist once; we provide the places where they take effect — listing, purchase order, release.
Machine standing idle?
Listing costs nothing, and so does the viewing record. The fee only arises when escrow pays out.
